#winning with Facebook Live
The Facebook algorithm has been favouring video content more and more recently and this will only increase in the future – with this in mind, it is NOW the time to capitalize on video, and start live streaming to your audience!
We have talked about this in the past, and today I’ll be giving you my TOP 5 tips on how to win on Facebook live!
(and, if you want to see how I do this in practice, follow me on Facebook for my 365-Facebook Live challenge!)
In case you have been out of the social media loop, Facebook Live is a live video streaming feature on Facebook that allows you to broadcast a live video out to your audience through your company page or personal profile, or into a group. It was released back in April of 2016 but wasn’t largely used by businesses until much later. We have seen a massive spike in video content from users, and business alike, and you too should be on the Live Bandwagon.
Keep in mind that once a Facebook Live video is created it will reside on your page or profile which gives viewers who missed the live event an opportunity to view the live video as well. Why do a live video instead of posting a pre-recorded video? Live videos are eligible to show up in an individual’s news feed during the live event, as well as after the event has ended. Aside from that, the chances of seeing a video while it’s live are now higher since Facebook has updated their ranking algorithm to show more live videos that are streaming in real-time in a bid to increase authentic, and engaging content!
So let’s recap the benefits of a Facebook Live video:
More authentic – social media is focusing on the ‘social’ of media – if you are able to lock into this and create authentic content, your content will rank higher in the algorithm
Increased notifications for your followers’ so more organic reach than other post types
Facebook Live videos receive 3X higher engagement than a video that is no longer live
Facebook Live videos also receive 5X more views than standard photo posts, according to AdWeek.
So how can I use this for my business
Here are my tips:
1. Create Hype
> Have a static banner post saying when you’ll be live & include the topic – from within ‘publishing tools’ on your Facebook page – menu at the top – put in a static banner and hit ‘schedule’. (You can create an on-brand banner from a free tool such as Canva.com )
> Send an email/chatbot notification as you’re going live direct to the post – this reminds viewers you are going live and encourages them to tune in immediately!
1. Go for the right format
> Go long – with a longer video more people will see it. It takes a couple of minutes for your audience to join you when you are going live, so if you sign off after 2 minutes, you potentially end the stream before they could even tune in! So longer is better, and gives them time to join you, and get into the conversation!
> Interview works well
> You can now do split screen
> Include a catchy description so when you’re live people know what it’s about, even if joining halfway through
2. Make it interactive
> This is how Facebook LIVE differs from Youtube
> As with anything else on Facebook – you want engagement for organic reach. So encourage interaction from the start!
> A Q&A is always good… answer the questions in real time
3. Be authentic
> LIVE by its nature is not overproduced – be yourself, show around the room and your surroundings. Leave the pre-planned, scripted content at the door, and just be real – build that bond
> If you are hosting an event, a great way to create a bond and include your viewers in the experience is to walk people around an event they can’t attend – show them what they are missing, talk about what is happening at the event
> Another great way to create engaging video is to introduce your team members & your behind-the-scenes culture – show them what happens at your headquarters – be real.
4. Ensure your lighting & set up is good
> Face a window or light so you’re not in silhouette – your viewers want to see you!
> Go hands-free! Whether you prop your phone up on a bookshelf or use a portable phone stand, make sure that your video is not shaky to ensure your viewers have a steady experience.
> Go horizontal unless you will re-use this content for IGTV.
> Practice – if you are slightly camera shy, the only way to overcome this fear, is by practice. You can create a safe space for you to practice in and have a friend or colleague critique you. (I use a private Facebook group to test my sound and image quality. Only I and my assistant are in this group, so it is a great place to run tests, practice and makes sure I’m feeling confident before I go live!)
5. Get Leads
As with all your activity – it should drive a measurable outcome for your business.
So use your LIVE video to get leads.
1) Create a Freebie that goes hand-in-hand with the topic of your live stream. Pop the download link on a landing page that gathers email addresses. Then simply add the landing page link to the description of the Live video, and encourage viewers to download the freebie throughout the course of the live stream.
2) >Messenger chatbot – If you have your messenger chatbot set up, you can trigger an event that replies to specific comments. During the livestream, you encourage interested viewers to comment on the trigger word or phrase below, and the chatbot jumps in and does the rest for you.
I’m sure you are inspired to now go live on your page! What you waiting for, get streaming!
