Those planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be vigorous and flourishing
(Ps 92:13-14 JUB)
Welcome to the Seniors
Seasons of Life
How often have we heard this phrase? “Welcome to the senior years of your Life! Well done on earning and obtaining your senior certificate. Congratulations on your senior years. Our one single life is made up of different seasons. Every season has its own unique traits. These become more, rich and real in our years, as we mature in age.
From the day of our conception including our last breath our life is recorded in “Heaven’s Library!” Even recorded in our own special “Book of Life!” David knew about these matters. He wrote in Psalms about the days of our life being numbered by our Lord.12 So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom. (Ps 90:12 AMPC Number our days)
He even recorded our lifespan to be three scores and ten and if by strength Eighty years. All our life we are faced with much testing, trial and victory. For all our days pass away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a murmur. The days of our years are seventy, and if any by strength live eighty years, yet their pride is labour and sorrow; for it soon passes, and we fly away. (Ps 90:10-12 LITV The number of our days)
Interesting Note
- Psalm 90:10 This psalm is credited to Moses, who is interceding with God to remove the curse which made it necessary for every Israelite over twenty years of age (when they rebelled against God at Kadesh-Barnea) to die before reaching the promised land (Num. 14:26-35). Moses says most of them are dying at seventy years of age. This number has often been mistaken as a set span of life for all mankind. It was not intended to refer to anyone except those Israelites under the curse during that particular forty years. Seventy years never has been the average span of life for humanity. When Jacob, the father of the twelve tribes, had reached 130 years (Gen. 47:9), he complained that he had not attained to the years of his immediate ancestors. In fact, Moses himself lived to be 120 years old, Aaron 123, Miriam several years older, and Joshua 110 years of age. Note as well that in the Millennium a person dying at 100 will still be thought a child (Isa. 65:20). (https://www.biblegateway.com/Ps 90:10 AMPC/number our days’ notes)
We have only this one life on earth, thereafter we face judgement. Yet our Lord remains Faithful, Gracious, and Merciful. When going through scripture we discover there, is a time and season for everything. Even as there are seasons throughout the years, we have seasons of life.
Even our Lord, before His ascension; spoke about times and seasons which not necessarily concern us (see Acts 1:6-8). These are all in the Father’s Hand. He knows every season of our life. He already knows the end from the beginning. Nothing catches Him unawares, because He is All-Knowing (Omniscient).
Our God is Timeless! He is neither bound by ages nor years. Yet He knows the very hair on our head. He created and formed us in our mother’s womb, even before we entered this life as a babe. He knows us intimately! Daily,! He longs for us to have an intimate relationship with Him!
God’s Recipe
This is why Paul could write about our life been fully dedicated to the Lord. That through the acceptance of Christ Jesus as personal Lord and Saviour we would experience Salvation (see Rom 10:8-13). This Salvation is for all who dare call upon His Name (i.e. The Name of the Lord). When we call upon His Name we shall never be disappointed.

He is closer than our breath. In fact, our every breath comes from Him. And Jehovah God formed the man out of dust from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. (https://www.esword.com Gen 2:7 LITV/Breath of life)
7 Then the Lord God formed man from the [a]dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being. (https://www.bible gateway.com/breath of life/Gen 2:7 AMPC).
2) Genesis 2:7 The same essential chemical elements are found in man and animal life that are in the soil. This scientific fact was not known to man until recent times, but God was displaying it here. (This is an interesting fact for us to know and to find out). (https://www.biblegateway.com/Gen 2:7-10 AMPC/breath of life/notes)
As I wrote earlier, as mankind we are God’s Prime Creation. He created us in His Image. He formed us with His fingers. After forming us out of the dust of the Earth, He (God) breathed in us the Breath of Life! He is the beginning of Creation. The Author and Finisher of our Faith. On the sixth day, He formed us, breathing His Life into us.
In Psalms eight we read God made us a little lower than God. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is a man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him but little lower than God, And crownest him with glory and honour. Thou makest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: (Ps 5:3-6 ASV). (https://www.esword.com/Ps 8:3-6 ASV/What is Man)
Seasons of Man
Scripture reminds us there are time and season for everything. Ecclesiastes writes about our different seasons. When born we are babes, then we grow, increase in activity and age. We first learn through crawling, then we learn to walk and run. Gradually we learn to speak, grow and mature throughout our latter days, seasons and years.
3 To everything, there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven: A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted,_ _ _ (https://www.biblegatway.com/Eccl 3:1-3 AMPC/times & seasons)
Certainly, the Lord has our life years in His Hand. When reading the Scripture we see how personal the Lord becomes, to those who urgently seek Him. He already knows our end from the beginning! These times and seasons are appointed by and through God. Appointed through Him alone!
Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hannah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: that they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions would not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered, “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever; for wisdom and might are his. He changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have the understanding. He reveals the deep and secret things. He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. I thank You and praise You, You God of my fathers, who have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we desired of you; for you have made known to us the king’s matter.” (Dan 2:17-23 WEB) (https://www.esword.com/Dan 2:17-23 WEB/Changes times).
The Spring of our Life
The Spring of our Life
This is the beginning of our life. We are conceived found in our Mother’s womb from the time of our conception. When young we are ready to take on the world. Not letting anything by any means stop us. We become rough, reckless and restless. We take up challenging adventures, desiring to change our world for the better!
This becomes the Spring of our life. Experiencing the newness and youngness of our seasons. Spring usually speaks about birthing new life. During this time of our, lifespan we enjoy experiencing the fresh sound of Nature’s Music. Spring is usually the start of new things. The youth of Creation! Hear the mating call of God’s Creation!
Hearken, hear the birds sing, praises to our King! During this season we take up new challenges. The plants allow fresh sap to flow through their veins, producing life upon life. Spring the mating call of the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, the creatures of the oceans. All during spring, produce new life. Their time of Procreation.

12 So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom. (Ps 90:12 AMPC)
Even the trees, the Grass of the field, suddenly shower their new blooms, The plants of the Veld, have put on their colourful, bridal gown. Spring is in the air! Everything seems to be fresh and new! The time of their childhood is mirrored both in life’s lively refreshed presentation and in our youthfulness!

Spring is the most beautiful of all seasons! Even when reflected in our youthful years, her beauty remains insurmountable. No sorrow here! Neither tear nor death reveals their face! Spring is the door to life. Yet Christ Jesus is and remains the Real Door to Eternity! He is the Good Shepherd, always tending His Sheep!
He is the True Vine! We are the Branches, regularly pruned by the Father! For the Father is the Husbandman, the Gardener! He prunes us so we could bear much fruit so that our fruit would remain! During the Spring of our life, we seek answers to our dilemmas, Already leading to the head of our youthful ages and seasons.
Readying ourselves for the end of the old entering into the New! lying ahead, we walk into the next season of our life’s transformation! We journey on until we enter the Summers of our Life! we are reminded to remember the Lord our God in the days of our youth.
12 Remember [earnestly] also your Creator [that you are not your own, but His property now] in the days of your youth, before the evil days come or the years draw near when you will say [of physical pleasures], I have no enjoyment in them— (Eccl 2:1 AMPC).(https://www.biblegateway.com/Remember your creator/Eccl 12 AMPC).
The Summer of our Life
59 Yes, thus says the Lord God: I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant;60 Nevertheless, I will [earnestly] remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth and I will establish with you an everlasting covenant.61 Then you will [earnestly] remember your ways and be ashamed and confounded when you shall receive your sisters, both your elder and your younger; I will give them to you as daughters, but not on account of your covenant [with Me]. (Ezek 16:59-61 AMPC). (https://www.biblegateway.com/days of your youth/Ezek 16:59-61 AMPC).
Then there are the Summers of our life. This season we may have mastered some new concepts of life. We enjoy the heat of the sun upon our skin. It may also be during these times of refreshing showers, wetting and watering of the sands of time. Preparation of the summer harvest.
How many Summers do we still have available for us to enjoy before we enter into the Autumns and Winters of our life? A good question indeed. Recently I read an article about the seasons of our life. one thing kept standing out. When we have married and become parents, we may have 17 or 18 Summers for us to spend with our children. How have we or how do we handle these seasons of our life and the lives of our young
We enter into the Summer of our life when we transition from youth, students and studies into the life tasks which we have prepared ourselves for. During this time we establish our boundaries. We start walking according to our earlier moral standards, equipping ourselves for the future seasons of our life. During this season there are plans for talking about marriage.
Some of us start looking out for our colleague’s friends partners we wish to share our lives with. Life’s challenges face us head-on. We may start talking about having our own children, family, property, business etc. We look for the right opportunity, openings, professions for us to participate in making our own. We set goals which we hope and trust we shall fulfil in our life’s journey ahead of us!
As the summer harvest draws to a close, we see an increase in produce and fruit. There is a multiplicity of products, fruit that is harvested in the natural Summer Season. So even in the Summer of our lives, we start seeing fruit and products coming to the fore. We are just entering into the Autumn of our lives when we start showing fruit.
Scripture compares us to trees. Whether bearing healthy or unhealthy fruit. Our Lord says we shall know the tree by the fruit it bears. We do not harvest and pick pears from apple trees nor peaches from apricot. In the natural, we know the tree by the fruit it produces. Therefore we shall know the people through their fruit they produce. We need to produce the fruit worthy of Repentance and Salvation.
The Autumns of our Life
The next season which we face as we mature, in responsibility and relationship is what we shall name the Autumn of our life. During Autumn, (Indian Summer, the Fall months) there is once more a change of temperature, growth and harvest. During this period some trees lose their leaves. While others show a rainbow of colours as they prepare for their winter rest.
Other plants may also change their dress code from colourful to Auburn, yellow, red scarlet shades of brown and grey. The true colours may display themselves, for all to see. During this season we start for full Maturity. We may be at the peak of our active lives and lifestyles. This period may also be one of the busiest seasons of our adulthood.
When we enter into the Autumn of our lives, we tend to become more accepting of certain situations in our life. We enter into a more mature adventure, our attitude toward others may change from selfish gain to considering others. We become more accepting of others despite their shortcoming.
During this Autumn of our lives, through God’s Grace, we are enabled to Love even as our Lord first loved us. Remember it is always been God’s Goodness and His Love, which leads men to repentance. ‘Twas His Love for the sinner which nailed Him to the tree (i.e. the cross).
The Winters of Our Life
This following season we enter may be our Winter which could even be our last. As the seasons of the year follow one after the other, the seasons of our life follow through. Each season covers a different stage of maturity. As long as the Earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter day and night shall not cease. (See Gen 8:21-22).
Yahweh smelled the pleasant aroma. Yahweh said in his heart, “I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake because the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth. I will never again strike every living thing, as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.”(Gen 8:21-22 WEB).
Even as we write about this season we start experiencing the differences in our physical life. Our body no longer is able to remain youthful and active as in our youth. We may have travelled many kilos. This physical body suffers corruption, although our spirit remains youthful.
We draw closer to the day we have to put off our Earthsuit. Preparing ourselves to enter into our eternal permanent Home, Whether from death to death or from death to Life! Even from life to Life, it is for us to choose wisely. The preferred destination being Eternal Life with our Creator Through our acceptance of Christ Jesus (Yeshuah Ha Massiach) as our Messiah.
He who knew no sin became sin for us that through our acceptance of Him (i.e of Christ Jesus) we become the Righteousness of God in and through Christ Jesus, who is our Lord! He became our Sacrificial Lamb taking our sin upon Him! He ever set before us Life or Death! Blessing or Cursing. He, therefore, admonishes us to rather choose Life above Death.
Welcome to the latter part of your life.
We are to remember our elderly and seniors. They have walked the road before us, and are constantly aware of the pitfalls of life. Foolishness may come with our youth whereas wisdom may come with maturity. All of us some time or another had elderly parents speak into our lives. When young we are reminded to honour our parents. Both natural and spiritual elders have much impact input to speak life over us.
When journeying through Ecclesiastes we come across this Scripture which speaks of remembering our Creator in the days of our youth. Further, he relates to us when we enter into the winter of our Lives! We are to prepare our hearts! (See Eccl 12:1- 8 AMPC).
Meanwhile, a place is being prepared for us to be forever with our Lord.
Our Lord tells us that He is preparing a place for us in His Father’s House: –
Do not let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.2 In My Father’s house, there are many dwelling places (homes). If it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you.3 And when (if) I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also.4 And [to the plce] where I am going, you know the way. (Jn 14: 1-4 AMPC (https://www.biblegateway.com Jn 14;1-4 AMPC I go to prepare a place for u)
He is spending all eternity to prepare a place for us to be with Him forever. When we see in the beginning how He Created all things through the Power and Authority of His Word! We discover it was the most Beautiful and very good! How much More Beautiful and Good are His Everlasting Habitations. When drawing towards the close of our Winter seasons of Life; we look forward to being all of the Eternity with Him.
