Rahab Hides the Spies
2 Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove[a to spy secretly, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there. 2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, “Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country.”3 So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the country.”4 Then the woman took the two men and hid them. So she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. 5 And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them.” 6 (But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.) 7 Then the men pursued them by the road to the Jordan, to the fords. And as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.8 Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, 9 and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. 12 Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token,13 and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.”14 So the men answered her, “Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. it shall be, when the Lord has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.”15 Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was on the city wall; she dwelt on the wall. 16 And she said to them, “Get to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you. Hide there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward you may go your way.”17 So the men said to her: “We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear, 18 unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household to your own home. 19 So it shall be that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we will be guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head if a hand is laid on him.20 And if you tell this business of ours, then we will be free from your oath which you made us swear.”21 Then she said, “According to your words, so be it.” And she sent them away, and they departed. And she bound the scarlet cord in the window. (Joshua 2:1-21 NKJ).
The Birth of Moses
2 Now a [a]man of the house of Levi [the priestly tribe] went and took as his wife a daughter of Levi. 2 The woman conceived and gave birth to a son; and when she saw that he was [especially] beautiful and healthy, she hid him for three months [to protect him from the Egyptians]. 3 When she could no longer hide him, she got him a basket (chest) made of papyrus reeds and covered it with tar and pitch [making it waterproof]. Then she put the child in it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile. 4 And his sister [Miriam] stood some distance away to find out what would happen to him. 5 Now the [b]daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the Nile, and [she, together with] her maidens walked along the river’s bank; she saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid [to get it], and she brought it to her. 6 When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. And she took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a [c]wet-nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?” 8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go ahead.” So the girl went and called the child’s mother. 9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. And she named him [d]Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”(Exod 2:1-10 Amp).
These promises go back to Abraham, Isaac & Jacob. Actually much further ’til the beginning, when God created all things. God created them with His Word. My previous post handled, the spoken Word. Where we read in John 1 about the Word of God. How the Word had being in the Beginning with God & the Word was God. Through His Word all things had been created. We know also nothing came into being, without Him. He spoke, calling those things which be not, as though they were.
When we lack Wisdom, we are to ask God for Wisdom. When asking for God’s Wisdom we need to ask without doubting, Should we be double minded, we may not receive or enter into God’s Promised Land. Whatever is not of Faith is sin. Yet we see that when we call upon the Name of the Lord, in Faith, we shall not be disappointed. God shall ne’er fail us. He always remains Faithful & True.
We are reminded the Fear of God is the Beginning of Wisdom. In all our seeking, let us seek understanding. The Lord shall at the right time, in due course, give us the necessary understanding, the Hidden Treasure of His Word! Back in the beginning, although we had messed up, fallen short of God’s Glory! God still made a way. Remember our Lord is able to make a way, where there seems to be no way.
We see right after our failure, God had already made provision for us to return to Him. He gave us His Prophetic Word of Redemption and Salvation. He promised us the Seed of the woman! He would crush the serpent’s head, and the serpent would bruise His Heal. Our Lord also gave the man and the woman clothes of animal’s skin. He through this prophetic action, showed us one day, when the fullness of time had come, He would give us His only Son to die in our place.
He would become the Sacrificial Lamb of God, Who would take away the sin of the world. He is the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. For without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. We are sure Life is in the Blood. God is the Covenant God. So He made a covenant with His crown creation. He cut covenant with Himself. Therefore His Covenant is an Everlasting Covenant. He swore by Himself for there is no greater.
12 so that you will not be [spiritually] sluggish, but [will instead be] imitators of those who through faith [lean on God with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in His power] and by patient endurance [even when suffering] are [now] inheriting the promises.13 For when God made the promise to Abraham, He swore [an oath] by Himself, since He had no one greater by whom to swear, 14 saying, “I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.”(see Heb 6:12-14 Amp).
He honours His Word above His Name. His Word is True, there is no darkness found in Him at all! After all He is the Light of the world, in Him there is no darkness at all! Christ Jesus knew no sin. Yet, He had been prepared to die in our place. He became a curse for us; for it’s written cursed is anyone who hangs on a tree.
12 Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.”[a]13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”[b]), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.(Gal 3:12-14 NKJ
- Redeemed us from the curse of the law
- Fulfilled the Law and the Prophets
- Became a curse for us
- Hung on the tree (Calvary)
- Promises Abraham’s blessing upon us (Gentiles in Christ)
- Promises the Spirit through faith
- Causes us to live through faith
- Honours His Word above His Name
We understand from the following Scripture (see Col 2:6-17) : –
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it[b] with thanksgiving.8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Not Legalism but Christ
11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins[c] of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. 18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not[d] seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.
- Our Lord overcame the enemy, on the cross.
- He defeated satan.
- He truly disarmed principalities and powers.
- He made a public spectacle of them.
- He triumphed over them
- He always causes us to Triumph
- He gives us Salvation
- In Him (Christ Jesus) dwells the Fullness of the Godhead
- He dwells in us
- All whom believe in Him are made alive
- We have been raised up with Christ
- We have been buried with Him
12 But the Law does not rest on or require faith [it has nothing to do with faith], but [instead, the Law] says, “He who practices them [the things prescribed by the Law] shall live by them [instead of faith].” 13 Christ purchased our freedom and redeemed us from the curse of the Law and its condemnation by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs[crucified] on a tree (cross)”— 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might also come to the Gentiles, so that we would all receive [the realization of] the promise of the [Holy] Spirit through faith.(Gal 3:12-14 Amp).
Blessing & Cursing
Through our messing up, ie our sin, the curse entered into this world. Death also entered in. For God is Holy, yes thrice Holy! The Lord warned us aforetime about the dangers, which would come into play due to our disobedience. He sets before us Blessing and Cursing, Death and Life therefore we need to choose Life!
Our Lord tells us He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He is the Alpha and Omega! He is the Beginning and the End! In Him there is Life and Life more abundantly. This Life is found in none other. Through Him, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, we have been set free from the Law of sin And death. He conquered Death, Hades and the Grave!
5 This is the message [of God’s promised revelation] which we have heard from Him and now announce to you, that God is Light [He is holy, His message is truthful, He is perfect in righteousness], and in Him there is no darkness at all [no sin, no wickedness, no imperfection].6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness [of sin], we lie and do not practice the truth; (see 1 Jn 1:5-7 Amp)
