Do You Delight In The Word??????

Do You Delight Yourself in the Word? Scripture 3So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth … Continue reading Do You Delight In The Word??????

The whole community remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers. The many miracles and signs worked through the apostles made a deep impression on everyone.

The faithful all lived together and owned everything in common: they sold their goods and possessions and shared out the proceeds among themselves according to what each one needed. They went as a body to the Temple every day but met in their houses for the breaking of bread; they shared their food gladly and generously; they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their community those destined to be saved.

Our faith walk: warfare

Andrew Roebert

overcome to overcomer

2 Timothy 2:3-4 ‘Take your share of the hardships and suffering [which you are called to endure] as a good (first-class) soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of [civilian] life; his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him.’

The analogy the Bible uses is that we are soldiers. You and I are soldiers, soldiers of Christ. He is our commander and the battle is His. We can’t just coast through the challenges of life. Our faith walk is warfare and we are soldiers. There is a great old hymn with the following words:

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe; forward into battle see His banners go! Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.

Our faith walk: a fight

Andrew Roebert

overcome to overcomer

1 Timothy 6:12 ‘Fight the good fight of the faith.’

The original Greek word for this term ‘fight’ is ‘agon’ meaning a struggle in the soul from which we get the English word agony or agonize.  And we should handle the fight as one who recognizes that he has an adversary.  It is not just a matter of the ‘road being steep’ but we have an adversary – the devil and we must fight on.

We must never surrender and we must never throw in the towel.  Our faith walk can be compared to a fight.

Jerub-baal (10/10/13)

Read:  Jeremiah 14:11-16:15, 1Thessalonians 2:9-3:13, Psalm 80:1-19, Proverbs 25:1-5

Your ancestors were unfaithful to me. They worshiped other gods and served them. They abandoned me and did not obey my word. And you are even worse than your ancestors! You stubbornly follow your own evil desires and refuse to listen to me.
(Jeremiah 16:11-12)

Remove the wicked from the king’s court, and his reign will be made secure by justice. (Proverbs 25:5)

Angry Mob

Relate: Gideon had another name. It was Jerub-baal. The name means “Let Baal plead” and he got it because he had the audacity to put actions to his prayers. You see, all of Israel was crying out for deliverance. All of Israel had been oppressed by the Midianites for seven years. They were all hiding in caves and holes in the ground. They were all asking for God’s help.

But an altar to a false god, Baal, was still…
