_ he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.” Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived. And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, “See your son lives!” then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know you are a man of God, and the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.” (1Kgs17:21-24 NKJ)
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; And you are complete in Him. (Col 2:8-10 NKJ).
In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. (Col 2:11-12 NKJ).
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them triumphing over them in it. (Col 2: 13-15 NKJ ).
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then all the other apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. (See 1Cor 15:1-19 NKJ).
Now we know, the Lord gave Elijah, a prophetic word concerning the drought, and famine, which was about to take place. Due to the greatness of Ahab’s sin, which had been revealed to Elijah. This sin had lead to the falling away of Israel. Even Paul when writing to the Romans says: – Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar(see Rom 3:4a).
Remember God, although Holy, is always Faithful, Forgiving, Gracious, Loving, Merciful and Righteous. We see this early in Scripture. Remember though we fell from our 1st estate, when we sold out to the enemy of our soul, the Lord already had a redemption plan, His blueprint, in His Heart of hearts, for restoring man back to Himself.
He revealed it to Adam and Eve, when still in Eden. He made this prophetic statement to the Serpent; as recorded in Gen 3:15, saying: – “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” (Gen 3:15 NKJ).
Our Lord; also made tunics of skin, for His fallen creation, before banning, driving them from Paradise. He then placed cherubim; (angels;); with fiery swords turning every way guarding the tree of life. God is thrice Holy. When the Lord called Moses, He revealed Himself, to Moses as a burning bush (see Ex 3:1- 22).
To Isaiah He revealed Himself sitting upon His throne; High and Lifted up. Isaiah heard the angels crying; “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts; The whole earth is full of His Glory!” (See Is 6:1-13).
During Ahab’s reign, the Lord raised Elijah, the Tishbite, to appear before him. He (Elijah) declared, decreed, prophesied of the coming drought before Ahab. Elijah declared there is to be a drought, no rain would fall, except at his word. In Job we find the following record; – _ _ _ you will have your delight in the Almighty, and lift up your face to God. You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows. You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; so light will shine on your ways. When they cast you down, and you say “Exaltation will come!” Then He will save the humble person. He will even deliver one who is not innocent; Yes, He will be delivered by the purity of your hands.” (See Job 22:26-30 NKJ).
Elijah had known about this word. That is why he could prophesy the drought. Yet he acted upon God’s instructions given him. For it is written; Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord God has spoken! Who can but prophesy? (Amos 4:7-8 NKJ).
- Where Elijah had been sent to appear before Ahab.
- Jeremiah had been called, ordained a prophet to the nations.
- Jonah had been called to go to Nineveh.
- Isaiah is known as the Messianic prophet.
- John the Baptist, had been called to Prepare the Way of the Lord
- Daniel had been called as a statesman
- Ezekiel had been called when he had been a priest
- Samuel had been dedicated to the Lord at birth.
- Moses had been called to deliver Israel, from Pharaoh’s hand
- Abraham had been called out from his country, his kindred, out of his father’s people; to become a great nation, as our father of faith.
- David had been called as king to shepherd Israel
- Solomon had been chosen to build the temple.
So were all the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors (shepherds), teachers, called to do the work of the ministry. Yet ministry means honouring God. When you had been called to some form of Godly leadership or any leadership. Yes even to lead a nation, you are placed in leadership by and through God. With leadership comes Godly responsibility. Yet; as in Ahab’s case; when you forget from whence and whom you had received, your calling. As a leader; you may miss, your destiny, destroy your future. You could like, Ahab, mislead a whole nation. Like Saul; you may even lose sight; of God’s original plan for your life, your nation, your peoples. This is why the Lord raises up His prophets, to be His specialists. These He calls, to bring correction to His leaders, and His people, who make up His Church. In this featured scenario, we find this happening to Ahab, leading to Israel’s downfall. These sins were the cause of Israel’s drought. This record of Ahab, sinning against God, bringing Israel into disrepute before God, is only one of the records, recorded in Scripture. There are many other Biblical, historical records, of the falling away of Israel and the church which make up the Body of Christ.
