Now Moses had passed on from this world, to be with the Lord; (i.e. Moses died). He finished the task given to him, by the Lord his God. He lived to a ripe old age, of 120yrs.
His strength & sight had not weakened, or dimmed. Scripture says: “The Lord; buried him.” There had been a time of great mourning, among Israel; when Moses’ days were ended.
It’s against this backdrop, that we see; Joshua rise to the fore, enter on this stage, of Israel’s history. Thus the Lord raised, Joshua to lead Israel in Moses’ stead.
_ _ _ Now therefore,[reverently] fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and in truth; put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the [Euphrates] River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Josh 24:14-15 Amp.).
Joshua challenged Israel towards the latter part of his life with these words. They (Israel) were to make a quality decision; whether they were to choose between the Lord their God who delivered them from bondage, out of Egypt; (type of sin and a worldly lifestyle;); or to choose the false gods and idols, their forefathers served the other side of Jordan.
Joshua made the quality decision, to serve the Lord. Israel, indeed followed suite. Thus all that generation until the first of the judges served the Lord.
Yet there came a time when they fell along the wayside, because they hardened their hearts, against their Deliverer.
Yet He still loved them. He gave them righteous, just kings who knew Him to rule His people, Israel.
He even raised upright prophets and priests to woo them back to Him.
Although they had been a stiffnecked people.
Even so, during these times, we are living in, our Lord remains Faithful & True. For He alone is God, and takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants.
He gave His Life, shed His Blood, so that all people everywhere, may have the chance of Salvation.
Scripture reminds us; God wishes all men to be saved and [increasingly]
To perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the [divine] Truth. For there [is only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Who gave Himself a ransom for all [people, a fact that was] attested to at the right and proper time. (1 Tim 2:4-6amp).
The Lord will always, first try and woo, the backslider back to Him & also to draw the sinner; unto Him. Remember ’tis God’s will that none would perish, but that all men everywhere, should come to repentance. (See 2 Pet 3:9.).
Even today He still, daily, regularly, reaches out to us; when we call upon His Name, He hears from Heaven, arising to heal our land. Yes He also, still, reaches out to us, ready to heal our backsliding.
